"Well it’s always a joy to see a familiar face," he said as he attempted to hide the growing anxiety behind his piercing, blue eyes, "better yet, a pretty one for that matter."
They tell a story in the desert lands, neither a fairy nor a merry tale, of a kind hearted princess and a betraying pirate. The princess when she saw the pirate, disguised as a navy captain, offered her people’s hospitality and her trust, and the greedy pirate accepted her gifts, then the princess offered her love and the pirate hid it in his satchel, smiling at her and whispering words of affection, and when the princess, who believed and loved the deceiving pirate, offered him her heart to protect, the pirate cradled it in his hands and set sails to sell the princess’ heart to the highest buyer, leaving the princess and her kingdom to fall in a cursed sleep that could not be broken until her heart was returned to her. That is the story you can here in the desert lands, told by old people as they look towards the sleeping kingdom, their eyes falling on the castle and the port, still praying for the pirate to return with the heart in his hand.
They tell the tale again and again so the desert people never forget and never trust the sea people, for the sea is treacherous and her men wicked and heartless.
